Handprint Lion and Lamb

I have been doing this project for a few years and I don't know why, but I always seem to run out of time. Every year I think I have it organized really well and then boom, I'm way over time. If you are planning this project, make sure you give yourself some extra time, or maybe it's me.

For this you will need:

1 12 x 18 piece of construction paper
yellow construction paper
black construction paper
orange construction paper
wiggle eyes
word: MARCH
sayings: Comes in like a lion
Goes out like a lamb

My first step is to take a 12 x 18 piece of construction paper and glue the word March and the sayings on. I only do this to save time. If you have more time, let the children do this. I then call a child to the table and have them write their name on the back of their paper--many can do this at this time of the year. If they can't I help them.

On a black piece of construction paper trace the child's hand--three middle fingers together(for head), thumb and pinkie out(for ears). Fold the orange paper so that you can get 4 hands with one cut--folding in half two times. Trace the child's hand open, this will be the lion's mane.

Now give them a pre-drawn circle. I let them cut out the circle while I cut out all the hands. They now have all their pieces to glue down. One black lamb, 4 handprints for the lion's mane and a yellow circle for the lion's head. I have them glue the hands down first, then the circle on top of the hands.

After everything is glued, we add wiggle eyes, cotton for the lamb's ears, and a face for lion. All done. Sounds easy, just takes time.

  1. Hi--I subscribed to your feed via yahoo but it hasn't updated posts in over a week, I think. Is it still possible to subscribe to your posts?

  2. I'm sorry I'm not too tech savy--I usually have a friend answer these kinds of questions for me. I actually didn't even know you could do subscribing until a reader asked me if she could do it.
I haven't changed anything on my part so I would think that be subscribed should still work. If I find out anything differently, I'll let you know. Thanks.
