Prepping for Valentine's Day

I know, today is Valentine's Day! Why still the prepping?

Let me begin by saying Happy Valentine's Day to all! Since I would have had to have our Valentine celebration on Thursday, the 10th, I decided to postpone our classroom Valentine's fun until tomorrow, the 15h. So, last we we did our prepping for Valentine's Day.
Our first activity was to make the ever popular Valentine bag, very easy, very basic. The children get a white bag and glue as many or as little hearts on the bag as they wish. The one thing they must do though is "write" their name.

The Valentine bag is the introduction of the "connecting the dots" name. Up until now the children have traced over their names that I have written. Now, I make a dot pattern and the children connect the dots to write their name. Some of them get this concept right away. Others will take the marker and just pound dots all over the paper. They get it eventually. Bags are done and ready for the big day.

Now it's time to create a Valentine card for our loving parents. Best thing about this card? We use Hershey Kisses and get to eat one :). For the card again I dot the children's name at the bottom. While they trace their name, I cut out their hand that I have traced on a piece of paper. Then a heart doilie gets glued down, with their hand glued on that. Finally, a couple dots of tacky holds the Hershey Kisses on for the parents.

Before I go, I wanted to mention I got a Valentine from Twisty Noodle. Twisty Noodle you say, what is that? It's a website with lots of useful pages you can use for coloring pages. I also includes pages for letters, numbers, and colors. You can find lots of useful pages on this site. Take a look, I'm sure you will be able to find something to use.

Again, have a wonderful Valentine's Day with your loved ones and little ones!
