10 Learning Sites for Preschoolers

The Internet is more than just a place to play--it is also a place to learn. There are hundreds of sites that offer learning opportunities for preschoolers and other young children. Here are ten sites that are both educational and fun.

Nick Jr. - The official Nick Jr. website is a preschool-friendly place to find online games and activities. The site also allows children to watch many of their favorite Nick Jr. TV shows on demand.

Sprout - Created for kids between the ages of two and five this PBS site offers games, coloring pages, crafts, videos, music, and other online activities. Sprout Online also provides a library of on demand preschool programming. - is a network of sites for preschool teachers and parents. It is a good place to find ideas for preschool appropriate crafts, activities, parties, games, books, songs, and more.

Count Us In - This ABC New Media Education site teaches basic number concepts through online games and activities. It is an excellent site for preschoolers who are just learning how to count.

StoryPlace - StoryPlace is a digital library for children. The preschool section of the site offers online activities, take home activities, and reading lists.

Starfall - This free public service was created to help young children learn to read with phonics. The Starfall site provides a place to learn ABCs, read books, play games, and watch educational videos.

Lil' Fingers - Lil' Fingers is a free storybook site for toddlers and preschoolers. The site offers original stories, educational games, printable coloring pages, and other age appropriate activities.

Seussville - Seussville offers games based on the popular Dr. Seuss books. The site also provides printables, music, and other things preschoolers would enjoy. - Preschoolers who visit this site can play in the DUPLO world, listen to stories, and watch movies. The site also offers downloads of posters, coloring pages, and activity sheets.

Smithsonian National Zoo - Preschoolers who like animals will love the animal cams provided by the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. The live web cams follow many of the zoo's most popular animals, including fish, otters, big cats, flamingos, pandas, gorillas, and orangutans.

Great list. Starfall was a fave when I taught and I have used it with both kiddos. I credit that site, The Letter Factory DVD, and Letter Factory Fridge phonics for both kids knowing letter sounds before they were three.
