More March Beginnings Songs

I thought I would look around for more songs about wind, and lions, and lambs. I found some and thought I would share. As most readers know these are from my two favorite books:

Piggyback Songs and More Piggyback Songs.

Here is a class favorite. I make up lots of motions for many of the songs, feel free to let your imagination fly!

MY KITE
Sung to: "The Farmer in the Dell"

My kite is up so high,
My kite is up so high,
Oh my--just watch it fly
My kite is up so high.

My kite is falling down,
My kite is falling down,
Oh no--it's down so low
My kite is falling down.

The wind has caught my kite,
The wind has caught my kite,
What fun--I'm on the run
The wind has caught my kite.

My kite is up so high,
My kite is up so high,
Oh my--just watch it fly
My kite is up so high.

Another favorite:

I WISH I WERE A WINDMILL
Sung to: "Did You Ever See a Lassie?"

Oh, I wish I were a windmill, a windmill, a windmill,
Oh I wish I were a windmill, I know what I'd do.
I'd swing my arms this way, I'd swing my arms that way,
Oh I wish I were a windmill, I know what I'd do.

THE WIND IS BLOWING
Sung to: "Mary Had a Little Lamb"

The wind is blowing all around,
all around, all around.
The wind is blowing all around,
all around the air.

Mrs. Gary McNitt
Adrian, MI

THE WIND
Sung to: "The Muffin Man"

The wind is full of tricks today
It almost blew me far away.
It almost knocked me off my feet,
As I came walking down the street!

The next time that I go outside
The wind won't take me for a ride
I know just what I will do
I'll put some glue on the bottom of my shoe!

Roberta Mohr
Bluffton, OH

WHEN I LOOK INTO THE SKY
Sung to: "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"

When I look into the sky
I can see the clouds go by
They don't ever make a sound
Letting wind push them around.
Some go fast and some go slow,
I wonder where the clouds all go.

Frank Dally
Ankeny, IA

I SEE THE WIND
Sung to: "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush"

I see the wind when the leaves dance by
I see the wind when the clothes wave "HI"
I see the wind when the trees bend low
I see the wind when the flags all blow

I see the wind when the kites fly high
I see the wind when the clouds float by
I see the wind when it blows my hair
I see the wind most everywhere.

These are from "The Big Book of Monthly Ideas" put out by The Mailbox.

This little lamb went to the pasture.
This little lamb stayed in the barn.
This little lamb had milk to drink
This little lamb had grass.
This little lamb cried, "Baa, baa, baa,"
all the way home.

This little lion went out on the plain.
This little lion stayed with its mother.
This little lion had wildebeest.
This little lion had gazelle.
This little lion cried, "Meow, meow, meow,"
all the way home.

These two songs are sung to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

Sheep, sheep, sheep I see,
Daddy's called a ram
See the mother called a ewe
With her baby lamb.

Lions, lions, lions, I see,
Together in a pride.
Mother's called a lioness;
Cubs are by her side.
