Some Winter Songs and Poems

I thought I would share some fun winter songs and poems. There's been some searches for them.

This is a fun poem, we usually do it twice in a row;

I have the children sit on the floor like they are on a sled--

Button up your coat.--pretend to button coat
Pull on your gloves.--pretend to pull on gloves
Sit on your sled--get situated on sled
And give it a shove, WHEEE!-- pretend to push sled and Whee

The following songs can be found in my favorite song books: Piggyback Songs and More Piggyback Songs:

I act out this song, pretending to build a snowman, making a sun with our arms, then melting away.

"Build A Snowman"
Sung to "Frere Jacques

Build a snowman, build a snowman
Big and round, big and round,
Sun is shining on him, sun is shining on him,
He's all gone, he's all gone

Saundra Winnett
Fort Worth, TX

Here's a good song to quiet them down--I sing it softer and softer:

"It Is Snowing"
Sung to "Frere Jacques

It is snowing, it is snowing,
All around, all around
Soft and quite snowflakes
Soft and quite snowflakes
Not a sound, not a sound.

Saundra Winnett
Fort Worth, TX

Here's another song we move to:

"Snowflakes"
Sung to: "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"

Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around--arms out spin in a circle
Snowflakes, snowflakes touch the ground--touch the ground
Snowflakes, snowflakes in the air--put arms in the air and wiggle fingers
Snowflakes, snowflakes everywhere--wave arms back and forth
Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around
Snowflakes, snowflakes touch the ground.

Jean Warren

"Sliding"
Sung to: "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch,
Up the hill we go--
Sliding, Sliding, sliding, sliding
Down the hill we go.

Mrs. Gary McNitt
Adrian, Michigan

Here's another you can act out. I'm not sure where this one is from:

"Snowman"
Sung to: "I'm a Little Teapot"

I'm a little snowman--point to self
round and fat--round arms in front of self
Here is my broom--pretend to hold broom
And here's my hat--pretend to put hat on head
When the sun comes out--make sun over head
It's time to say
This is the end of me today!--pretend to melt.
